History

Piecing together the history of the original owners of the Stonehouse and surrounding property has been an rewarding experience for Dianne and Ian.
The heritage Stonehouse was originally built in 1850 by Charles Oates.
The Oates were a prominent family in the historic Huon Valley during this period.
The walls of the recently built garage-com-museum, constructed from, rocks collected from around the property are adorned with framed originals of old letters dating back to the 1870 s.
Amongst this wonderful discovery of old letters is a letter sent in 1904 from the NSW Fruit Exchange, a company which still operates, the letters were found in the roof of the Stonehouse during restoration.
Equally as impressive a find was a letter sent from London, informing the Oats family how to pack apples in straw.
